Stormy North Coast, Ridging Southern BC

A typical fall storm will move over the North Coast today. Heavy rain and strong winds will accompany with this system. The system will stall over the North Coast today and move to the Central Coast tonight. The system will gradually weaken while moving across the Vancouver Island on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, South Coast and southern Interior may see some light rain from the tail of the warm front from the system today. A clearing trend begins tonight as a weak ridge of high pressure builds south of the system.

Over northern BC and southern YT, increasing cloudiness then rain begins later today as the system approaches. Showers will continue through Wednesday as an upper trough moves over the area.

The 500mb map shows an upper low over the Gulf of Alaska this morning with a southwesterly jet stream/Atmospheric River aiming the North Coast. While the jet stream stalls over the North Coast today and over the Central Coast on Tuesday, southern BC will be under a building upper ridge to keep the area dry.

The front will weaken while move across southern BC on Wednesday. The upper low will move across southern YT on Wednesday to spread showers to YT and northern BC.
