Southern Half Showers
Today a ridge of high pressure brings a drying trend over northern half of BC. The trough moves across central BC today allowing light precipitation to continue over the southern half of BC. with showers and thunderstorms developing over SE BC this afternoon. On Saturday an offshore system will crash into the coastline spreading widespread showers and ahead of it, possible widespread (low severity) thunderstorms to interior BC. With the remaining weekend looking wet and possibly windy on Sunday over the central and northeast parts of the province.
The 500 MB animation depicted above shows a stark distinction between the north and the southern half of BC. Over the southern half, a slow decaying upper trough lingers today and part of tomorrow bringing unsettled conditions. Over the north, a ridge of high pressure will maintain fair-weather skies.
Late Saturday into Sunday, an elongated upper trough moves onto the BC coast bringing widespread precipitation to the province. This will result in a slow-moving upper low offshore keeping the province wet and unsettled.
