Pacific frontal system spining off the coast

A Pacific frontal system will continue to spin off the coast today giving light to moderate precipitation over the coastal and Vancouver Island ranges. An upslope westerly flow will persist over the interior mountain ranges extending from the North Rockies to the Lizard range giving generally light precipitation. A ridge of high pressure will bring some sunny breaks to the South Klondike today.

Another frontal system will arrive on Saturday. The more westward trajectory of this system will result in greater snowfall over the alpines of the mountain ranges. Snow is also forecast for the South Klondike.

The 500mb animation above shows an upper trough moving across the province today with scattered precipitation across the ranges. A weak upper ridge follows in the wake of the trough tonight but don't be fooled. It carries with it the next frontal system with more warm air. Rain and snow will accompany this system as the frontal system slams onto the coast Saturday night. The 546mb 1000-500mb thickness line butts up against the Coast Mountain range initially but will be guided inland on Sunday and as a result freezing levels will rise when this warm airmass moves into the interior.
