NE Alpine slopes were getting loaded significantly overnight and throughout the day today. We observed numerous windslab avalanches on NE alpine slopes form size 0.5 - 2. The Propagation on the sz 2 was quite impressive (photo 2).

On NW aspects in the lower alpine we found older stiff windslabs (December 12th?) beneath 10-20 cm of storm snow that was scouring away throughout the day. We also managed to remote trigger a small windslab on a NE facing micro feature from 4 meters away (photo 3)! Propagation was approximately 15m and slid on the December 6th rain crust.

We dug two pits (profiles in photo 4 and 5) and found pretty great stability (ECTN22 and ECTN24 STH) with the early December rain crusts, however a VERY reactive storm slab (ECTP1, SP @ 30cm) on a sheltered NE aspect. However, we did not have any shooting cracks with this storm slab while skiing or skinning on NW or NE aspects despite many attempts.

HS at the Hankin Parking lot is 70cm

HS at Warming = 110
