We finally have enought storm snow (35cm) over the surface hoar layer buried on Dec27th to create some hazardous conditions. We triggered a small road bank with our sleds on our way up today on this layer. We then decided to keep our terrain choices super mellow after that (less than 30 degrees) and avoided any big overhead slopes. While skinning up we noticed shooting cracks from our skis several times. When we dug down into the snow the weak layer was super obvious as well. Looks like we're starting the new year with a tricky avalanche problem that has potential to linger for a long time.
