Commentaires

Today was very touchy around Burnt knob. Between 1300-1600m elevation almost everywhere we walked was whumphing or avalanching if it was over 35 degrees. These avalanches were about 40-60cm deep (the depth of the storm snow) and appeared to be failing on facets (we did not observe any surface hoar). We saw one size 1 natural slab avalanche in action triggered by a sluff, and widespread size 1-2 avalanches that had occurred since Fred and Scott’s MCR reports yesterday. We also triggered several size 1 slab avalanches on small features while walking up and skiing down. Above 1600m the snow became more right side up and we did not observe any cracking, whumphing or shearing despite the new wind effect.

We avoided all big steep slopes and runouts that hadn’t previously avalanched.

Photo attached is a small roll we triggered wile trying to stay away from the bigger slopes where the uptrack normally goes.
