Healy pass/Egypt lake/shadow lake

Skiing:Alpine was wind hammered on all aspects, poor skiing. Best skiing found in sheltered terrain on all aspects in the trees, temp crusts quickly turned into moist surface snow below 1900m.

Weather: Was extremely windy over the 3 days with steady strong SW winds and very strong gusts. Winds and warmth seemed to have spiked natural activity over wed to friday in the area. Temps hovered the - 6 to 0 degree range at 2000m most of the trip. Cloudy gloomy weather between periods of brief sun were encountered all 3 days.

Snowpack: In deeper areas at tree line the snow pack is well rounded and strong. The March 19th interface is a crust below 1900m and small sh, facets on polar aspects, and crusts on solar aspects. We did encounter Basal facets and possibly even depth hoar in some places that is present on thin scowered and even lee slopes at tree line. Above this weak interface was a mix of settled powder, surface facets and in some places a hard windslabs that now sits above this interface, found mostly at tree line near ridge crests, Boulder fields and in the alpine on solar aspects.

Although it hasn't shown in any recent avalanches we treaded cautiously around this and treated it with a classic rockies mind set. Kept our terrain choices, route choices and exposure very mellow with the natural activity and the wind and our findings.

Avalanches: check avalanche tab.
