Sky Pilot zone

Beauty of a day in the Sky Pilot area to ring in the new year. We found light powder at lower elevations that became noticeably (but not brutally) wind affected once we reached treeline and above. The recent storm snow still seems pretty unconsolidated beneath the wind effect. We saw a few signs of mostly small, thin wind slabs that may have slid naturally a few days ago. They show up in the photos if you look closely. The temperature inversion didn't seem to reach us at our 1560m high point, but the brief glimpse of sun we caught on our shady north aspect was quite warm. We probed a 200-230cm snowpack depth with a hard surface beneath the storm snow (~50cm) and a couple of deeply buried and very hard crusts lower down.
