Commentaires

We spent the day sledding in Lucille and it definitely felt more like spring than early February. Travel conditions were great, but warm temperatures have us shifting our mindset to spring avalanche problems. Temps hit around 5°C in the shade and closer to 8°C in the sun by mid-day. Things peaked around noon, then started to cool by about 2 p.m., which helped take the edge off the warming effects on the snow.

We saw plenty of snow pinballing down slopes, especially off rocky outcrops that were soaking up the heat. We half-expected cornices along the ridgelines to start failing during the warmest part of the day, but that didn’t materialize. Spring-style avalanche hazards look like they’ll stick around for a few more days, before a hopeful return to more winter-like conditions.
