A real mixed bag of snow surface conditions up to Pump Peak today.
On the up-track we experienced wet surface conditions and substantial boot pen (up to 100cm). Above 1300m, the thin melt-freeze surface crust was frozen, supportive & sketchy.
Some opportunistic probing revealed two substantial crust layers down 30 and 70 cm at wind-affected ridge top. No HST could be collected due to impenetrable lower crust interface.
Photos attached show observed recent avy activity on a SE aspect. Multiple storm slabs approx 30 cm thick, running ~20 m.
Overall, a socked in day with gusty winds from the W-SW. At 3 pm, weather lifted and winds died down.
Happy solstice!
