Commentaires
Skiing down Mongolia ridge back to the resort. Goal was to avoid the cliff sections and ski mellow slopes. We skied down and caught the edge of the cliff band. Stopped at the top, assessed conditions and created a plan. Planned to ski through a small opening (chute feature) First skier went and stopped at safe spot. Second skier went through and triggered a failure in the snow which crowned at the base of the cliff feature. Was carried 5-10m and stopped by grabbing a tree. Slide continued 80m through trees.
Slab was the latest snowfall on the crust. Slabs were consolidated and heavy.
No injuries.
Tested snowpack to assess stability to gain knowledge and understanding on what happened and why. Good learning!
