Commentaires
We were pleasantly surprised to see 35 cm on the Cain weather station this morning. So we took a drive up north to see for ourselves.
He hit snow on the Cain road around km 8. At the parking lot, 35 cm of fresh pow was a long overdue sight to see! Just our luck, the skies opened up and the sun came out as soon as we hit the skin track.
Tree bombs were shedding left and right, winds were calm, and temperatures reached 0° by 1300 at the top of E bowl. We observed several natural slab avalanches in steep terrain (sliders, dream chute, and on Mt Able). As well as pinwheeling across E bowl from the warm sun.
We had all the information we needed to make a conservative terrain choice before even breaking out our shovels.
As we started our descent the skies clouded over and it was very lightly raining. Ski quality was “good” (2026 season “good” at least!).
There are still many hazards lying just beneath the new snow, keep those tips up and get after it!
