When we checked the weather this morning, the significant increase in wind overnight immediately caught our attention. With steady snowfall over the past few days, we anticipated that fresh wind slabs were forming and adjusted our travel plans accordingly.

We began the field portion of the day by verifying conditions in Simple Terrain. At Treeline, there was still lots of low-density snow available for transport (approximately 50 cm), making for deeeeeep powder riding. Both small lee features and larger lee slopes at Treeline showed clear signs of wind loading, so we avoided the bigger slopes. The smaller features, however, well…
