11th Annual Canuck Splitfest - Virtual Event

Presented by Eagle Pass Heliski

We are stoked to host the 11th Annual Canuck Splitfest this year presented by Eagle Pass Heliski. We’re doing things a little differently this year. This year’s event will be virtual with something for everyone whether you are a splitboarder, backcountry ski tourer, sled access ski/snowboarder or interested in any type of playing in the backcountry, then you’re welcome here with us. Same great community, more speakers, and epic prize draws. You must register before the event. Registration is open NOW here.

You do no want to miss our blockbuster line-up of speakers Jan 8-10

Friday Jan. 8th is all about trip planning. You will learn from professional meteorologist, Matt MacDonald, who will show you how to use long range weather models to plan your trip; an Avalanche Canada Field Team Pro, Martina Halik, who will share some personal stories about managing avalanche risk during her epic traverse from the coast mountains to Alaska; and an ACMG Professional Splitboard Guide, Adam Zok, who will share tools for expert level decision making and creating new plans on the fly.

Saturday Jan 9: (RE)Fresh to the Backcountry: This evening features three panel discussions focused on what newbies need to know, mentorship, and what’s what in new gear. Discussions with pro athletes Leanne Pelosi, Chris Rasman, Sandy Ward, Gill Andrewshenko, Jonathan Penfield, and Jessa Gilbert all lead by Ian Holmes, splitboarder, adventurer, and the driving force behind the wildly popular Backcountry YYC user group. A lucky participant will win an AST course from Whitewater Ski Resort.

Final evening on Jan. 10th: Get inspired to explore the Spearhead Range, one of Canada’s best touring assets. Join Matt Gunn for a discussion about the extensive options available off the Whistler Blackcomb lift system, including old growth trees, massive glacier runs, tight couloirs, and steep alpine faces. Matt will provide a sense of the opportunities and experiences available in the area and provide insight into the ups and downs (so to speak) of researching, writing and publishing the recently released Spearhead Backcountry Atlas. Learn more about the author and the book through the Instagram feed @matt.g.gunn or spearheadbackcountry.com

The Canuck Splitfest was created 10 years ago by Wade Galloway, an avid splitboarder. Wade wanted this event to bring splitboarders together to celebrate and advance the sport with backcountry safety in mind. His vision was to have the event at the foot of Rogers Pass. The inaugural event was held at the hotel at Rogers Pass. It was later moved to downtown Revelstoke to accommodate the 350 participants who make a pilgrimage to Revelstoke to experience the legendary powder and endless touring destinations. He directed the raffle proceeds to go to the Avalanche Canada Foundation. Today the proceeds, go to Avalanche Canada's public avalanche programs.
