Enjoy Canada's beautiful winter landscape and learn how to stay safe from avalanches. There are a variety of events happening across western Canada and Quebec. Check out an event near you!
- Alberta Parks, Winter Safety Day. Kananaskis, AB. Sunday, January 18. Canoe Meadows Day Use Area, 11 AM - 3 PM. Free winter safety activities, information and food.
- Apex Mountain Resort. Join for a burger lunch in the Apex Village Centre from 11:00 AM–1:30 PM, thanks to the support of Penticton IGA. Stop by the information tent in the village from 10:00 AM–2:00 PM to connect with members of the Apex Ski Patrol and Penticton Search and Rescue, ask questions, and learn more about staying safe in the mountains!
- Avalanche Québec. Discovery and Visitors Centre at the Parc National de la Gaspesie, March 7-8. This community-focused weekend will feature a companion rescue park, backcountry planning and winter nutrition workshops, trailhead outreach with forecasters, and fun events like the "Golden Transceiver" challenge, photo contest, après-ski, and pancake breakfast. - Banff Centre. Max Bell Auditorium. Monday, January 19. Learn about avalanche risks associated with backcountry and out-of-bounds travel. Featuring presentations by snow safety experts, films from Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival, door prizes and a trade show. Suitable for ages 14 and up.
- BC Parks, Sea-to-Sky, Red Heather Hut, Garibaldi Park. January 17-18. Join BC Parks Rangers to test your avalanche awareness and safety skills, with the chance to win some great prizes!
- BC Parks, Brockton Point at Mt. Seymour Park. Saturday, January 17. Come learn about avalanche safety with BC Park Rangers! Fun activities including quizzes, transceiver practice, and education on North Shore winter travel. Prizes to be won!
- Castle Mountain Resort. January 17-18. Featuring a punch-pass style event with interactive stations around the resort, including a snow profile demonstration, transceiver practice area, avalanche dog demo, and an information booth. Guests who visit all stations can enter to win prizes, with additional opportunities through prizing and a silent auction!
- David Thompson Snowmobile Riders. Date TBD. Eckville, AB.
- Fernie Alpine Resort. January 17-18. This event features a full weekend of interactive, on-mountain and base-area activities, including a transceiver hunt, avalanche rescue dog demonstrations, and a live snow pit demo with ski patrol. The weekend also includes a fundraising apres auction in the Griz Bar, with proceeds supporting Avalanche Canada.
- Fernie Snowmobile Association, Avalanche Awareness and Snowmobile Demo Days. Saturday, January 17. 10 AM - 3 PM. Avalanche awareness plus Snowmobile Demo Days bringing together four snowmobile manufacturers. Come on out for a fun day with other riders, local SAR team and the AvCan SoRo team.
- Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Golden, BC. January 10-11 from 10AM - 2 PM. The KHMR team will be in on CPR Ridge and in Crystal Bowl all weekend on January 10th & 11th with various activities going on. Look for the Kicking Horse Arch and Tent in Crystal Bowl!
- Lake Louise Ski Resort. January 24-25. Enjoy a free, drop-in weekend of avalanche awareness activities, including hands-on beacon practice and snow profile talks led by avalanche safety professionals, and prizing opportunities after completing the stations.
- Marmot Basin. Jasper AB. Saturday, January 24. Learn about safety on the slopes and in the backcountry with the Marmot Safety Ops team. Live demonstrations will be taking place, a question and answer session, and a special appearance from the Canadian Avalanche Rescue Dog Association (CARDA). Prizes will be given away at the Q&A session from Helly Hansen, Rockaboo Mountain Adventures, and Kuma Outdoor Gear, so don't miss it!
- Mount Washington Alpine Resort. Saturday, January 17 from 10AM - 2 PM. Mount Washington Professional Ski Patrol is partnering with Avalanche Canada to host Avalanche Awareness Day—a free, drop-in event focused on snow safety and mountain awareness. Stop by to connect with Ski Patrol, BC Adventure Smart, and local Search & Rescue, learn about avalanche safety, ask questions, and build skills for responsible travel in the mountains. Whether you’re new or experienced, there’s always more to learn when the stakes are high.
- Panorama Resort. Saturday, February 7. Join the Panorama Ski Patrol and Avalanche team for a day of learning about snow science and backcountry safety. The days events will kick off from 10 AM at the base with Panorama's Avalanche team opening up an info booth until 2 PM on the Great Hall deck.
- Shames Mountain. Terrace, BC. February 7-8. Join us a full demo of the beacon park run by the Mount Remo Backcountry Society and an information station on local rescue caches and demonstration of emergency helicopter landing procedures by Terrace Search and Rescue. Canadian Ski Patrol will also be on site with a tree well rescue demonstration and information station. This is a great opportunity to learn practical rescue skills, ask questions, and even win prizes!
- South Cariboo Search and Rescue. Mica Mountain Rock Meadow. Saturday, January 17. You are invited to Mica Mountain for a day of building avalanche awareness, practising skills, refreshing knowledge, and testing your equipment.
- Sun Peaks Resort. Saturday, February 7 from 10AM - 3 PM. Stop by Beacon Basin, located at the top of the Sunburst Express chairlift, to learn about safe travel in backcountry terrain, common hazards, how to avoid them, and where to access formal backcountry training and additional resources. - Whitewater Mountain Resort. January 17-18. Avalanche Awareness & Tree Well Safety Days offer an incredible opportunity to enhance your skills and deepen your understanding of staying safe in the mountains.
