Celebrate winter, learning more about avalanches, and how to stay safe while you enjoy the backcountry.
Numerous organizations, resorts and clubs will celebrate winter and avalanche education through Avalanche Awareness Days. The "official" weekend for Avalanche Awareness Days is January 21-22, 2023, but AAD activities and events can happen all winter long. Check the schedule below to see if there is an event near you.
- Avalanche Awareness evening, Invermere, Jan. 12 at the Ullr Bar
Come to the games room at the back of the Ullr Bar, 7 - 9 pm. Local mountain guides and avalanche forecasters will present a quick snowpack synopsis, observations, and SAR updates of the central Purcell Mountain Range. There will be time for Q&A, Schwag bags, raffles and prizes! - Avalanche Awareness Days at Marmot Basin, Jasper, Jan. 21

Are you AVY SAVVY? Test your skills and knowledge at BC Parks’ annual Avalanche Awareness Days on January 21 and 22, 2023 at Brockton backcountry gate near Brockton Point in Mount Seymour Provincial Park. In partnership with Avalanche Canada and North Shore Rescue, you can learn backcountry skills and how to safely travel in avalanche terrain from local park rangers and North Shore Rescue members, practice with avalanche transceivers, and even test your knowledge for the chance to win some prizes.

Mount Washington Professional Ski Patrol is partnering with Avalanche Canada to bring Avalanche Awareness Day to Mount Washington. All ages and abilities can join us out front of the Alpine Lodge and speak to professionals, learning about snow safety in our mountain environment. Bring your own beacon for a beacon basin scavenger hunt below Eagle Chair for awesome prizes; come and meet Rory the local Avalanche Rescue Dog; experience demonstrations from the Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue Team, and more! - FREE avalanche refresher day with Mountain Skills Academy and Adventures, Whistler, Jan. 27
This course will focus on seasonal equipment functionality check, companion rescue steps, fine search mastery (single burial) as well as multiple close burials (marking function).
