Comments
Several remote triggered avalanches observed today south of the St Mary’s Valley.
1: A creek crossing slope. Remote trigged by snowmobile ~30 m away. Slab depth ~50 cm. Failed on facets. East facing.
2: A steep, north facing aspect with sparse trees (picture with red circles around crowns). Remote triggered by snowmobile ~50 m away from a level area (not on slope). Crowns propagated about 100 m upslope and through sparse trees. No obvious wind effect. Slab depth 50-100 cm but didn’t get close enough to confirm.
3: A very short, steep east facing aspect with no vegetation. Remote triggered by snowmobile from above. Crown propagated ~100 m wide and 100+ cm deep. Failed on facets on crust with knife hardness. Very wind loaded. Slope was very short so we were able to get a close look at things. Recent storm slabs and various crusts evident in debris block.
