Comments
AST 1 class observations : Cold - 12c and windy, with easterly outflow winds, and light snow all day. 10cm of low density snow fell today and last night, and is drifting & creating windslabs in exposed areas at treeline and above. We had lots of cracking and easy shears in freshly loaded test slopes, and we observed a size 1 slab avalanche, 4-6 hrs old on a steep windloaded southwest aspect at treeline. Below treeline, the top 30cm is loose and dry. We found the Nov 7 crust down 60cm, and seems to be around 100cm snowpack depth at treeline, in sheltered areas.
