Comments
Today we rode at the Onion.
There has been about 5 cm of new snow here over the past 24 hours. There were moderate to strong east and north-east winds throughout the day.
Sheltered areas were still holding non-wind-affected snow, which made for great riding.
We observed a size 2 wind slab avalanche on a west-facing slope at 1600 m that released within the past 24 hours.
We dug a snowpit at 1580 m and found 140 cm of snow. In testing, we were not able to get any propagating results during an extended column test. During a compression test, we were able to get hard results on the Nov surface hoar layer, down 80 cm from the snow surface.
Happy holidays!
