Skied Mt Field. -27 at the car. Good track broken through the treed shortcut. Calm winds during the AM, picked up during the approach. SW & cold. A number of hand shears in the alpine revealed nothing of interest. Highly variable snow w pockets of wind-slab, crust, & powder. An important observation was a relatively recent large cornice failure on a NE lee aspect. It ripped right to rock, but did not pull a slab from the snowpack below.
