Comments
Great day in some untouched alpine. -24 in the valley bottom in the am although it warmed up to -12 in the afternoon. Light winds seemed variable but primarily from the north west at ridgetop and gusting to moderate. Very significant previous wind affect in all open terrain building cornices, massive rock hard sastrugi and slabbing all open terrain.
Several to many older (3-4day) natural windslab avalanches on all alpine aspects to sz2. Crown depths from 10-25cm.
Pushed some pretty big terrain after seeing/finding no significant signs if instability besides the cracking in the first thin wsl treeline/alp. We found great snow in sheltered northerly locations.
