Comments
It’s a windy one out there, and wow has some damage been done.
We started out the day around pine pass where the extreme winds were blowing the snow off the mountains, never to touch the ground again.
We then headed towards Mackenzie for a quick trip up Morfee. The first 3 km of the road are clear blue ice, just after the switchback it changes to hard packed crusty snow. Heading up towards the ridge the crusty surface conditions continue to dominate with a few small wind drifts to be found. Once you reach the alpine, all the snow has been stripped off and the main surface is a 3 cm thick clear blue ice crust. It is also difficult to remain standing in the gusty winds. With that in mind, we went home.
