We saw numerous small slab avalanches today on all aspects below treeline. They looked to be about 15-30cm deep in most places. We dug a pit around 1930m on an east facing slope and found a total snowpack height of 135 cm. Our tests revealed that the new storm snow (about 40cm deep there) is very touchy and easy to trigger right now. We also had results on a deeper layer around 75cm on surface hoar and facets from mid December. I think there is still potential for the touchy new storm slabs to step down to this deeper layer in isolated areas.
