Quick couple laps at tryst today. -20 at car, -10 at the top of the ridge. 20mm surface hoar was observed in open trees/cut blocks around 2000m, at 2250m the crystals were much smaller but still present.
Dug a pit at top of ridge to take a look at the snowpack. SH 110cm on a 35 degree slope NNW aspect resulted in a CTH 23 drop on the facets below one of the icy layers 75cm down (nov 5 or nov 9 crust). With that we opted for a couple laps on a more mellow slope with open trees.
15-20cm of fresh unconsolidated snow on last week’s wind affected layer skied pretty good. Our sluff was running long distance and accumulating some mass and momentum in more open areas. Overall, nice sunny day and the slight refresh was very welcome.
