Comments

North east winds have taken us back to the crust from Valentines Day at Bijoux. These winds have scoured ridge lines and piled the 20cm of new snow the Pine Pass received into dense windslabs on southerly slopes. Meanwhile, older windslabs still linger on northerly terrain around tree line. We had a lot of cracking on recently loaded test slopes that warned us to avoid bigger southwest terrain where the slabs would be most reactive. We saw evidence of recent wind slab avalanches on both north and south facing slopes. One of these appeared to be triggered by riders the day before. Although the day was cold and windy, it was nice to get out in the sunshine on a bluebird day.
