Comments
Today, we sledded in to the mountains behind Grave Lake, then toured up and along a ridge at 2200 m to have a look into the snow.
We found a relatively weaker snowpack up here north of Sparwood, weaker than we have been seeing elsewhere.
The total depth of snowpack (HS) was roughly 90 cm. The top 5 to 10 cm was new soft snow over an old wind affected layer. The mid and lower snowpack is generally faceted with no significant layers of concern. At the bottom of the snowpack, the facets have grown large and become unconsolidated.
We saw a few loose dry avalanches out of steep terrain in the Alpine and Treeline.
