Comments
We traversed from the Lily Glacier to the Asulkan Glacier through Dome Col. Sunny day with temp inversion. Little na activity observed. A few loose dry on solar aspects near rocks. Spotted the Swanzy sz 2.5 slab avalanche that stepped down to Nov 5 MF crust on NE face @ 2500m. Winds were moderate near Lily Col. Observed SW wind transport on Bonney-Swanzy ridge top.
.
UP: A few minor creek crossings still. Elephant trunk is thin but good to go. Still very bushy. The Lily Glacier was wind-affected for the most part, icy in isolated spots. A soft 2cm wind skin was observed in the alpine on cross-loaded west slope. Limited cracking under our skis. 5cm of powder on a compact base, just enough to hold an edge on the up. No crampons were necessary. West slope was getting a little hot in the PM, snow would get a little heavier. Dome col required a short bootpack in faceted snow.
.
DOWN: Skied the big roll into the steep skier's left face. Wind affected up top, 10-20cm of powder on a firm base down low. Well preserved snow that did not seem to be affected by temp spike yesterday. Widespread 10-20mm SH @ ~2000m even in the alpine where winds were calm. 40-50mm SH down by the Asulkan Brook. No cracking, no whumphing.
