Comments

Tuesday: A beautiful day for a hike - Skiing...not so much. Our snowboarder faired better with the severely wind and temperature affected snowpack. However, we did not observe any signs of instability, thankfully. In fact, I expected bad things to happen but we did choose the most well supported terrain to tackle and avoided all overhead hazards and convexities..

Backstory on Monday: Warm temperatures, 10-15 cm of new snow and strong south westerly winds on Monday with near zero temperatures at mountaintop created an dense wind affected snowpack. Skiable in sheltered areas only. Baldy Rocks was challenging to ski on the maintenance shop aspect but still fun. The backside was much better. Most every tree in Kootenay Pass lost its snow! Mother nature was talking.
