The Dome - Shames side country

Riding quality was:

Amazing

Snow conditions were:

• Powder
• Wind affected

We rode:

• Alpine slopes
• Dense trees
• Steep slopes
• Sunny slopes

We stayed away from:

• Convex slopes

The day was:

• Cold
• Foggy
• Sunny

Avalanche conditions

• 30cm + of new snow, or significant drifting, or rain in the last 48 hours.

I wasn't looking for trouble but the alpine looked touchy. All aspects of The Dome were heavily wind affected. As visibility deteriorated and snowpack stability was in question atop, traversing toward the Zyamcord trees seemed like a bad idea. I elected to descend from The Dome through the safest route. I ski alone so no buddy rescue is possible if things go sideways. No snowpack stability issues were observed but I sensed dangers lurking.
