Comments

Went up Circus, down Portal. Inversion caused the car park to be +2C @0800 (-3C in town). Cool temps all day kept the snow supportive; however, Portal Cr. is definitely a sporty descent in PM now. Snow began @ 1000 and continued until we reached Portal Creek @1330. It was still snowing up high when we left (S-1) with Mod. W winds transporting the new snow.

On ALP polars, widespread wind slabs had formed in the upper snowpack (10-30cms) which was bridging the weak facets below. Numerous LW avalanches were seen from the recent cycle a few days ago with one triggering a sz2 WSl. We experienced 1 whumph but saw no new Na.

On ALP solars, snow is disappearing fast with Marmot Pass unskiable now. We skied a SE-facing avalanche path and found the snow strong and supportive. HS145 @2100m.
