Quiet weather today becoming active tomorrow

A ridge of high pressure will result in mostly clear skies and dry conditions over much of BC today. The next weather system will begin to spread cloud over BC starting tonight. The clouds will be followed by moderate to heavy precipitation on Tuesday over most regions except the southeast interior (Columbias, Kootenay-Boundary, Purcells, South Rockies) where a chance of precipitation is expected.

Starting tonight over northern BC, a cold front swinging down from the Yukon/NWT will form an active band of snow over White Pass and the eastern slopes of the North Rockies. Cold north winds associated with the front will cause temperatures to fall. The front will remain stalled over White Pass and northeastern BC through Tuesday.

A ridge of high pressure will keep most of BC clear of active weather. As the ridge breaks down on Tuesday, the northwest flow aloft will become more west to east (zonal) and winds aloft will increase. The zonal flow will also direct the incoming weather system towards BC.

Over the Northwest Territories/Yukon, a cold front will swing down towards northern BC today and tonight. The advancing front will generate snow and bring down a cold airmass behind it. The cold front will begin to weaken Tuesday as it clashes with the incoming weather system from the west.
