Onshore flow
A broad upper trough will bring a westerly onshore flow over the BC mountain ranges today with flurries and moderate snowfall amounts expected over the western-facing slopes.
A frontal system will arrive on the Northwest Ranges Saturday morning with heavy snow and very strong mountaintop winds. It will spread moderate to heavy snow and strong mountaintop winds over the South Coast and the interior mountain ranges late Saturday afternoon and evening.
A second frontal system will arrive on the Northwest ranges Sunday morning and reach the South Coast and Interior ranges later in the day. This system is moisture laden. Very heavy snowfall amounts, very strong mountaintop winds and rising freezing levels are associated with this system.
An upper trough will remain over the Coastal mountains today and consequently the entire province will be under a westerly onshore flow. A zonal jet stream will follow this upper trough on Saturday bringing heavy snow and strong winds to the Northwest Coastal. At this time, an elongated zonal jet has formed over the northern Pacific to fetch tons of moisture. A short wave developing along the jet stream will lead the a strong system striking the BC mountains on Sunday.
