Here comes more snow
Today we see another low tracking along the BC coast from the northwest bringing snow to everyone, but the deepest deposits are reserved for areas along the coast. After taking a similar track as several we have seen lately, the low will AGAIN linger and dissipate near the coast of Washington with an inverted trough poking into the southeast corner. Friday looks pretty snowy in BC everywhere! (*local exceptions may apply). Not huge amounts but 5 to 15 cm in the mountains is generally forecast in the Interior. This event looks to be mostly confined to the coast with 15 to 20 for the northern coastal mountains, and 15 to 30 cm forecast in the southern coastal mountains.
On the weekend, the cold arctic air pushes into central BC again with clear skies. It tries to advance towards the south but, it's a battle between the advancing cold dry air and the southerly moist flow coming from the lingering trough.
In the Global 500 mb animation, you can see the passage of the frontal systems into the south and the upper flow tilting more and more toward the northeast. The coldest air is pushing away into Alberta at first (the pink dashed lines), then they follow behind the snow-maker system ushering cold air back in for the weekend.
