Alberta Rockies added to Mountain Weather Forecast

Mountain Weather Forecast enhanced with more information for Alberta Rockies

Riders in the Alberta Rockies will be happy to know about improvements to our Mountain Weather Forecast for this winter.

The Mountain Weather Forecast has been produced for Avalanche Canada by the Meteorological Service of Canada since January 2015 and has undergone several updates since then.

This winter, the forecast will feature expanded coverage of the Alberta Rockies. Forecasters at the Pacific Storm Prediction Centre in Vancouver will collaborate daily with forecasters at the Prairie and Arctic Storm Prediction Centre in Edmonton to foster regular coverage of weather affecting the Alberta Rockies. This means the synopsis and commentary in the day one and day two tabs will now include specific information for the Alberta Rockies.

The other major change is that there is new zoomed-in visible satellite animations from the GOES 17 satellite offering much higher resolution for the South Coast, Southern Interior, and Alberta Rockies. These animations are available on the Hourly Precipitation, 12hr-Total Precipitation, Radar, and Satellite pages.

All these upgrades will allow users to get a better look at upcoming weather in their region.
