Karl's contributions to public avalanche safety recognised
We are pleased to announce that Karl Klassen, Avalanche Canada’s warning services manager, was awarded a Canadian Avalanche Association Service Award at the organization’s annual Spring Conference in May.
Karl was recognized for his innumerable contributions to public avalanche safety in Canada over his lengthy career. Over more than 35 years he has been a guide, researchers, author, filmmaker, mentor, instructor and examiner. He has been both the executive director and the president of the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides.
He was one of the key players behind the founding of Avalanche Canada in 2004 and has played a crucial role in its growth ever since as the head of its forecasting program, all the while acting as the lead guide at Monashee Powder.
As the CAA puts it: “Over the years he has left an indelible imprint on the public bulletin, InfoEx and almost every other advancement of the avalanche community.”
Congratulations, Karl!
