Grant awarded towards Masters thesis
The Avalanche Canada Foundation is pleased to announce that Gabrielle Antonioli of Bozeman, Montana has received $750 from the Cora Shea Memorial Fund to assist with work towards her Masters thesis in Snow Science at Montana State University.
Her thesis involves the collection of a unique field data set in the form of post-storm snow water equivalent measurements in a 27 square kilometer section of alpine watershed. These data will be analyzed in conjunction with a snow cover model paired with a numerical weather prediction model with the aim of providing more accurate avalanche and hydro-logical forecasting.
Her primary goal as a scientist is to explore the pairing of field data with more sophisticated forecasting tools in the form of snow models or remote sensing.
"Receiving this grant will not only support my thesis but also support my work as a researcher, mentor in the snow community, and forecaster in the future," says Gabrielle.
