Avalanche Canada staff were instrumental in presenting the first ever Virtual Snow Science Workshop online from Oct. 4–6. Held to fill the void left by the postponement of the International Snow Science Workshop in Fernie, the event featured 14 presentations, two panel discussions, and numerous poster presentations. About 1,000 people from around the world registered to attend.

The following AvCan staff worked on VSSW:

  • James Floyer, forecast program supervisor, served as the program committee chair.
  • Brent Strand, graphic designer, produced the webinar.
  • Simon Horton, forecaster, organized the online poster presentations.
  • Jen Coulter, senior field team leader, was on the organizing committee and hosted one of the presentation sessions.
  • Mary Clayton, communications director, handled communications for the event.

The team will now focus their attention on ISSW next year in Fernie from Oct. 3–8.
