  • Fraser Cutes - January 12, 2013

Skied Fraser Chutes today and enjoyed great turns in 20-40cm of slightly wind-densified powder. We (party of two) skied the central gully that is about 500m east of the creek (our approach). Due to suspect behaviour from one of our beacons we skied very conservatively skiing about five runs in that gully. Ski penetration varied from about 30cm in the

  • Full burial in Terrace backcountry!

Hi Gang Two friends of mine from the Kootenays were skiing Shames slackcountry near Terrace on January 21 (Sat) and were involved in an avalanche that resulted in a full burial and successful rescue (with no injuries other than shock). I am sharing because many Yukon skiers go to Smithers and Terrace each year to enjoy the backcountry. Here is the brief

  • Avalanche Fatality in Yukon (Kluane Park)

News reports indicate that a Czech national living in Whitehorse died in an avalanche on Sunday, April 11 in Kluane National Park near Observation Mountain. I have no information on this incident beyond the news story but felt that I should post as soon as possible to raise awareness. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/north/story/2010/04/13/yukon-avalanche-death

  • Re: Avalanche Incident Report: 3/10/2010 : Glave peak, Three guarsmen mountain, Yukon

Thanks to the party involved for submitting the report - very glad that no one was seriously hurt!! If possible, please provide more detail since the report as posted is hard to understand in places. Again, very pleased to hear that no serious injuries occurred. Thanks again.

  • Re: Natural at Log Cabin

Thanks for posting MC - it shows the magnitude of the slide (a big one!!) and also shows what the wind is doing. I looked over that way a few times during the day and did not notice the fracture so I agree with you that it must have happened later in the day but when we were all still in the area. Everyone needs to be careful on the big features and

  • Re: fraser web cam

Yep - that is the one that I have been using but I don't like it. With the old one you could see a "historical" of the last 3-6 hours or so (good if you want to see what it was like out there but are checking after dark). This link new does not seem to give us that option - or am I missing something??

  • Re: conditions Feather Peak Jan 25

Hi Claude Thanks for this very useful post. The description with picture and snow profile really provide a lot of information. Thanks again. It seems like we all need to be very careful out there. Lately there has been several slides on north-facing and cross loaded (east) slopes. This follows a surface hoar layer event that formed before a substantial

Hi Scott Thanks for posting this. I am very glad to hear that you all ended up uninjured! I also heard a faint rumour that there were two other skier triggered avalanches that weekend (including at least one at Feather). Does anyone have any information about those slides? Where? When? Who? Play safe everybody Sean
