Jan 24,28 SH sitting on a crust down 25 cm @ 1800m SW aspect. LOTS of whumpfing in the elevation band from 1600 to 1800m. Wide, snapping propagations. Surface hoar crystals 10mm and greater standing on end. Tipped over to N asp at 2100m and found a surprisingly big avalanche had released on this same layer (down 30 cm in this location). Yep we had some hiccups with the bulletin system today. It was up and down a couple of times. I apologize for this interruption in service. Our technical staff is looking into the problem this evening and will update me tomorrow. I will try to post an update here when I can. J Kelly, CAC Operations Manager.

Hi folks, John Kelly here - CAC ops manager. Keep the comments coming - we're reading. I agree with everything said so far. We have a backlog of improvements but I hope that all the things mentioned will get fixed in the near future.

Ski tour to treeline. Observed strong variation of new snow quantity with height. Observed several mega-whumpfs in the cutblocks around 1200m elevation east aspect. Photo attached shows some naturals releasing on said layer. Towards treeline no whumpfing but new snow much more generous - Feb 22 surface hoar buried 40cm deep. Skied conservative lines

Unnamed peak - unnamed drainage (lol) Below treeline January 29 SH still sniks off humps and rolls in creek beds and moist gullies. At treeline there is small surface hoar on top of 20 cm big recrystallized facets. Jan 29 is about 35-40 down and shatters underfoot occasionally but there is no whumpfing - the recrystallized layer on top is just not cohesive

Thanks Ray, Any idea if the slab went on the early season facets? Or was this a layer within the newer snow. Things will be interesting in the South Coast on the next heavy loading episode (if that ever happens!). Also climax avalanches in the spring. JK
