120223 Excellent weather for an overflight through the North Rockies yesterday. Temps had a spring like feel, pushing 0c by noon at treeline. No recent strom snow in the PG areas, but the Tumbler areas picked up 10-15cm, last 48hrs likely. Winds were calm. Snowpack is slowly transitioning into spring, with crusts on solar aspects, and cold dry settled powder on North aspects. Snowpack in the Gleason/ Otter area of the Mcgregors is pushing 400cm, while dryer as one would expect near tumbler, @ 200cm at treeline. Extensive previous wind effect noted in the tumbler areas, with most of the windward slopes ( W aspects) scoured to rock. Avalanche activity was minimal, however noted isolated recent cornice triggered slabs to size 2.5 in shallow areas. Evidence of fairly widespread cycle in the Albright area, likely a week ago+/1 up to Size 3, on most North apects, in windloaded features, with good propogations.
