Headed toward happy valley today leaving the truck by about 8:30am. Temps were above freezing. Headed over to the start of the climb out of the valley, all the while noticing lots of recent activity in the bottom of the valley (wet snow sz 1 - 2 coming off steep features and/or gliding off the rock below). Freezing level was probably 100m, above valley bottom @ 9:30. We didn't like the idea of exposure to both sides of the valley on the way out (later in the day, warmer etc) so we bailed, and skied prayer flags instead. Skiing can best be described as sporty with a trace of new wet snow over a sometimes breakable/sometimes not crust. CAA forecast suggested low below tree line, obviously one has to consider this is not the case in all terrain, but I would suggest keeping an eye out and consider your route (in and out) carefully with the big warming that seems to be going on. Temp at the base of the ski hill was +7C @ 1230.
